Kallatech1313 wrote: I have a client who wants to know if there is a way to get a mac laptop to print to a kyocera laser printer and prompt for a code? The user puts in the code and then accounting can track how many pages are printed and can bill accordingly. As fun as 2.5 year old threads go, I have to say my advice probably still stands. If in the print dialog there is no Job Accounting section, you probably aren't running the correct driver. That said, if you need help, Open a new topic with the following. Model of machine you're trying to have the Mac Print to? Did you download and install the driver for that Model from? When you added the Printer to the Mac via the IP Printing section, did it autopopulate the Driver field at the bottom, or did it say Generic Postscript? I am having this issue with a MacBook Air trying to find where to enter the Accounting Codes for a Kyocera 3551ci and 4550i. I have downloaded the driver from and added the printer with the IP address. The driver did autopopulate, however, the setting to add the accounting code isn't readily available. If I try to print from Microsoft Word, and select to view the presets, I can see the Accounting Code feature but it is set to Off. I can't change the setting from here. I am able to add the code and print to both using Windows 7 in Parallels. Any help much appreciated. We are using a print server which means for PC's, you find the printer in the shared printers- click install and it is all set! When you tell it to print it just asks for the code. BUT Mac is totally different. It took three different tech people from Kyocera to get it working. These are the steps- not pritty, but the last ones are critical.Steps. Connect to network 2. Download proper device drive and install it. Go to Kyoceradocumentsolutions.com to find it. Once downloaded, click to install. When finished, then map the printer above by using IP 4. To go system preferences, printers and scanners, and on the left click +. Three choices appear, you must choose IP, then in the address spot, add the ip to the printer that matches the driver you downloaded and already installed. Leave Queue alone, and change the name from the IP address to the official printer name above. Location is optional, but we have it in the name so not important. Then at the bottom click add. When finished, open word. Make a document and go to file print. On the top choose the printer you just added. Then, the third choice it says copies and pages, click on that and choose job accounting. When that comes up, select the job account check box, and then put your account number (4 digit code for printers). ![]() Then go to presents, the second menu at the top and choose “Save current settings as presets. A dialog box will appear, please name it for the printer you are setting up- the same as the printer name and select All printers. (the reason is that some printers are the exact same drivers so you can reuse them. You still must add that printer in manually, but then this doesn’t need to be done again. Click on ok and then back out and you are done with that application. To do another application, start again with step 7 and go through step 9, using that choices of the printer you have already created. Do that to application you might want to print to in the future. I just solved it: (this may be a bit different if you are using a older version of macOS sierra but the accounting setting should be found similarly) 1. Download whatever driver you need with the correct model and install it (make sure to delete the printer if you already have it in your system before installing driver so when you install driver, it will add the printer from there) 2.

(Solid State Drive) Mac mini 8GB Apple Desktops & All-In-One Computers; SSD (Solid. When I first wrote about, high-capacity SSDs were just beginning to become affordable. Replacing a Mac’s 500GB or 1TB hard drive with a same-sized SSD required at least $250 back then, but the benefits were tremendous: even an aging machine became markedly (5x) faster, silent, and — unexpectedly — more fun to use. All for much less than the price of a new Mac. Today, high-capacity SSDs are more affordable than ever. Replacing your old 500GB hard drive with a same-sized SSD from a reputable manufacturer, while, each $100 less than only a couple of years ago. Once unthinkably huge and are now commonly available, too, albeit at eye-watering prices. With this week’s, Apple has officially made SSDs its preferred Mac storage solution, introducing the new APFS standard to further optimize SSD performance over Fusion and traditional hard drives. So this is a perfect time to revisit the topic of SSD upgrades; if you held out before, now’s the time to jump in! The Big Picture For nearly a decade, SSDs have been acknowledged as the “future” of Mac storage. Even without changing a Mac’s CPU, GPU, or RAM, replacing the hard drive with an internal SSD instantly leads to much faster macOS performance, app loading, restarting, and file accessing. A Mac that once took over a minute to boot can now start working in seconds; Macs built with SSDs can awaken from sleep instantly. Despite superior performance, high prices led Apple to slowly stagger solid state drive adoption across individual Mac product lines. The January 2008-vintage original MacBook Air was the first Mac with the option of a 64GB SSD (for a $1,300 premium over the laptop’s base price), and 1TB SSDs were going for roughly $4,000 — Apple didn’t even try to sell 1TB SSDs at that point. ![]() Nine years later, dramatically faster and smaller SSDs with the same capacities can be had for less than a tenth of those prices, so every current Mac either has an SSD by default or as an option. Running cooler, quieter, and with superior energy efficiency than traditional hard drives, SSDs have fewer failures, and reputable manufacturers tend to warranty them for longer than their predecessors. For instance, generally have 5-year warranties, and if you’re willing to pay more, its have 10-year warranties, eclipsing all but the most expensive enterprise-class desktop hard disks. Not all SSDs are equivalent in reliability and performance, but ones from top-tier chip companies are pretty incredible. Which Mac Models Can Be Internally Upgraded? Good news first: most older Macs and even some current Macs can be easily user-upgraded to include SSDs. With limited expertise and only three tools, I was able to swap out my 2011 iMac’s old hard drive for an SSD in roughly 30 minutes. [Alternately, if your Mac has a SuperDrive, you may be able to replace that optical CD/DVD drive with the SSD, though it’s important to note that the SSD mightn’t run as fast due to slower Mac internal connections to the SuperDrive. Hard drive replacement is generally the best option.] Bad news: the newer the Mac, the greater the likelihood that actually installing the drive yourself will be tricky. Apple continues to shrink its desktop and laptop machines, more tightly integrating the few remaining components inside, so you’ll want to follow an to safely open and close your machine. Owners of the very latest MacBook and MacBook Pro models shouldn’t bother going further; these laptops have hardwired SSDs that can’t be replaced, a trend that Apple may expand to future desktop Macs. If your Mac is one of the following models, it can probably be upgraded with an SSD. IMac: Up through 2017 (current) models Mac mini: Up through late 2014 (current) models. Mac Pro: Up through late 2013 (current) models MacBook: Up through mid-2010 models MacBook Air: Up through 2017 (current) models MacBook Pro: Up through mid-2015 models For Non-Upgradable Macs, Consider External SSDs Ideally, you’ll install the SSD inside your Mac, squeezing maximum performance out of its chips without needing to power an external device. But if your Mac can’t be internally upgraded, or you’re squeamish about opening up your computer, you can buy an external SSD and connect it to a USB 3 or Thunderbolt port. You’ll see definite speed improvements for whatever files and apps you place on the SSD, though overall macOS performance won’t change unless you’re booting from the SSD itself. Preparing Your Mac for an SSD Before any hard disk to SSD swap, my advice is to run a complete Time Machine backup to an external drive — preferably one that’s connected with a cable rather than Wi-Fi — so all of your old hard drive’s contents will be ready to transfer over to the new SSD. I strongly recommend updating your Mac to the latest non-beta version of macOS it can run before beginning the backup process. Always send the perfect GIF and video responses to your best friends straight from your menubar! Syncs with Riffsy GIF Keyboard on your iPhone. Your GIF collections are instantly available on both your iPhone and Mac so your favorites GIFs are accessible everywhere. GIF creation and sharing company Tenor is today introducing the first app that puts GIFs directly into the Touch Bar of the 2016 MacBook Pro, which is debuting amid a rebranding of the company's Mac app as well. Previously known as 'GIF Keyboard' the app will now be called 'Tenor for Mac,' and when it's launched on the desktop Tenor will display emojis on the Touch Bar and allow users to tap one to see a list of GIFs representing certain feelings, such as 'Happy,' 'Tired,' 'Excited,' and so on. Touch Bar support is also coming to search results in the Tenor Mac app, so when users query the service for a specific GIF they will receive a horizontal list of GIFs related to their search input. Users can then use the Touch Bar to scrub through the search results, and when the right GIF is found a simple tap will copy it to the Mac's clipboard, allowing it to be shared in the usual places, like in Messages. The right GIF makes all the difference. As the mobile GIF-sharing leader, we at Tenor know that people often struggle to get their point across quickly. So we deliver just the right GIF that says it better -- fast. Today we’re extending that lightning-fast experience to the laptop with the launch of our Tenor Mac App. Now available for free in the Mac App Store, Tenor makes it easy to search, discover and share GIFs across apps, browsers and messages. Tenor for Mac is the first app to put GIFs directly into the Macbook Pro’s Touch Bar. Tenor's Mac app will otherwise remain unchanged with the new rebranding and Touch Bar update. Users can still browse through GIFs using the service's dropdown toolbar menu, as well as create their own collections of GIFs -- called 'packs' -- themed around specific emotions, TV shows, movies, or whatever they choose. If a GIF is missing from the service, users can also simply drag and drop the one they want into Tenor, after first saving it to their computer from another source. Word on a similar rebranding update for the GIF Keyboard iOS app was not given. Tenor for Mac is powered by the company's ',' which aggregates more than 200 million GIF searches that are executed every day as a means to map the most popular GIFs people use to express themselves. Using this information, Tenor then displays the most-used GIFs at the top of its search results so users can find what they want at a quicker pace. Will begin replacing GIF Keyboard in the Mac App Store today, and will be available to download for free. Gifs have quickly become one of the most popular ways for people to express themselves. That’s because it requires less time to view than a video, but it’s also more expressive than a photo. You can find them all over social media and the Internet in general. Some of them are pretty fantastic also. If you’ve ever thought of creating a gif yourself, you have two options. The first is a camera app that turns a short piece of video footage into a gif. The other is a gif creator tool that helps you make them from other stuff. We’ll explore both of these because they are the best gif creator apps on Android. If you find the creation process too tedious or annoying,! Footej Camera was one of the first cameras to also do GIFs. It's also a really good camera app. It features manual camera controls, an integrated gallery app, burst shot mode, a photo histogram, and more. ![]() There is even 4K video support on many devices (with more coming). The app can also create high quality GIFs using photos or videos that you shot. Those GIFs are shareable just about everywhere. The app has a few problems here and there. However, the dev team is generally fairly communicative about fixing them. ![]() Giphy Cam is one of the newer gif creator apps. It's also from Giphy, one of the undisputed champions of the GIF format. The camera records a short segment of video. You can alter that video with tons of filters, special effects, stickers, text, and more. It also has a five-shot burst mode alongside its video mode. This is probably the best GIF/camera app hybrid. It doesn't have any camera features, but it does GIFs better than the others by a fairly wide margin. It's completely free with no in-app purchases. Some messaging apps have a GIF creator built-in. GroupMe is one of them as is Google Allo. GroupMe can't create GIFs from nothing. However, you can take a GIF, add text, and the app will remake it for you. Google Allo has a camera function that shoots a few seconds of video. That video is sent to your friends in GIF format. These aren't great for general GIF creation. This is a beautiful app. A bug exists in NuGet though, if you have any sources that are using encrypted credentials it will cause the NuGet Package Source preference to not show any sources. You have to remove it manually via the command line (nuget sources remove -name “TheSource”). After you’ve done that, you’ll be able to see/add a source, but the GUI won’t allow ANY sources with credentials to be saved. I was able to get something in there by adding my source without credentials (As you can’t save a new source that has a user/pass for some reason in the GUI), then edit to add those credentials. Upon saving, it gives an error that it can’t write to ~/.nuget/config/NuGet.config. Adding cleartext credentials via terminal works though. Use, see and control all changes in one spreadsheet window. Best Screen recorders for Mac OS X 1. Camtasia 2 They say good things in life hardly come free, and while we generally disagree with that, in this case, it’s actually quite true. One of the most expensive screen recording tools out there for OS X, Camtasia 2 is as good as they get. This beast of a program is the most comprehensive recording suite that you’ll find, allowing users to not just record their screen and a number of external input devices simultaneously, but its studio-like layout with layered timeline allows smooth editing and mixing, enabling you to create screencast videos like a pro. Camtasia also offers a series of visual effects, including a unique “green-screen” mode that allows you to insert yourself into the video, as if you were a part of the action yourself. Videos created via Camtasia can be fully interactive, allowing your viewers to interact with hotzones as you set them up, and work across all sorts of devices. Camtasia also offers a companion mobile app, TechSmith Fuse, which allows importing photos and videos directly into Camtasia Studio from your iPhone, Android or Windows Phone device. It is undoubtedly the most powerful screen recording suite out there, but is primarily aimed at professional users, in which case its rather steep pricing ends up paying for itself over time. ScreenFlow The second best choice after Camtasia, albeit arguably (it’s hard to pick a clear winner between these two). ScreenFlow is another paid offering that brings professional-level screen recording and video editing to the table. What I particularly like about ScreenFlow is its user-friendliness over Camtasia, where the latter has a significant learning curve. ScreenFlow offers a similar set of powerful features but in a less complicated interface. • • • • Mac users are once again being reminded to keep their anti-virus software up-to-date, following the discovery of a Trojan horse that poses as an update to Adobe Flash. The OSX/Flshplyr-A Trojan horse (called “Flashback” by our friends at Intego, who ), is disguised as an installer for the popular Adobe Flash program. Mac Users Attacked Again by Fake Adobe Flash Update. Posted on April 12th, 2016 by Graham Cluley. Mac users are once again being urged to exercise caution when installing updates to Adobe Flash Player, after a fake update was discovered infecting computers. Adobe advises that everyone else should update “via the update mechanism within the product” or by getting a freshly minted copy of its player from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center. Once in place, Trojan horse could allow a remote hacker to gain access to your computer or download further malicious code to your Mac. Sophos products, including Sophos’s, detects the Flashback malware as OSX/FlshPlyr-A. It’s easy to imagine how cybercriminals could trick Mac users into infecting their computers with this malware. For instance, it would be child’s play to create a website which pretends to show something salacious (“Scarlett Johansson nude video!” would probably do well at the moment, for instance) and then when you try to view it, you’re prompted to install an update to Adobe Flash. Of course, rather than the genuine Flash you would be installing the Trojan horse. Similar tricks have certainly worked well in the past – against both Windows and Mac users. Here’s a video of another malware attack that tripped up Mac and Windows users, by duping them into installing a fake update to watch a sex movie of Leighton Meester: (Enjoy this video? You can check out more on the and subscribe if you like) Maybe now you can see just how easy it is for some folks to fall for this kind of trick. ![]() This is just one example of if happening in real life, there have been plenty of others.
